Why I love soaker hose
If you love gardening like me ( https://amazing2live.com/category/wellbeing/ ) but dread watering your garden on schedule, try soaker hoses in your garden. A soaker hose is a flexible, hybrid sponge-like hose used in the garden for watering garden beds. The way it works is that they slowly disperse water in the soil without us lugging the hose around on a hot summer day.
One can’t beat the convenience of using them in the garden. If you know how to use a hose to water the garden, you know how to use these. Sure, drip irrigation is good, but it is so time-consuming to start the whole process. Then there is the whole learning curve to figure out how it works and run around trying to purchase all the items. The time and costs add up over time. For me, the soaker hose is more convenient to use as I save time and money. The project is over in a few minutes from start to finish. What more can I ask?
How to use a soaker hose
Using the soaker hose is as simple as snaking the soaker hose next to the plants and then connecting the main hose to one end of the soaker hose. The other end remains blocked. Turn on the faucet, and that’s it! Easy peasy!
If you want to get fancy, use spitters to divide the soaker hose into different sections.
How long to water with a soaker hose
Depends on how dry the soil is. If it’s pretty dry, I leave it on for 30 to 60 minutes the first time and then reduce the time to 10 to 20 min.
Which size soaker hose to buy
Depends on your requirement.
Measure the length of the area you want to water and then decide on the hose length.
If you are going to lay it down in a circular pattern, DON’T get the flat soaker hose. They are terrible. Get the soaker hose that looks like a tube.
Use of metal spikes to hold the soker hose down helps.
Problems with soaker hoses
Soaker hoses are very efficient but can wear down after a few years and may need replacement. If you keep it covered with mulch, then they last longer. If they are used on a slope, the water distribution may not be even, as the bottom of the incline will get more water than at the top. To solve this problem, place the end of the soaker hose at the lower end than the fill end. To use water efficiently, use it where plants are placed close together.
Where to purchase a soaker hose
Shop around and compare the prices to get the best deals. Most garden centers carry them, especially during the spring and summer months. Big-box stores like Walmart, Lowe’s, and Home Depot also have them all year. You can also find them on Amazon and other online garden stores.
Conclusion
I love my soaker hoses in my garden as they give me a chance to focus on other chores in the garden.
