We are drowning in overstimulation of our senses.
Human interaction has gone down, but opinions & views are always screaming inside our heads, leading to mental confusion.
The two sayings from the Catholic Bible, specifically from the book of “Wisdom of Solomon,” that resonated with me are
Everyone who is holy has learnt to stay away from deceitful people. He will not stay around when foolish thoughts are being expressed ; he will not feel comfortable when injustice is done.
The Wisdom of Solomon 1:5
So be sure that you do not go about complaining – it does no good – and don’t engage in bitter talk. The most secret things you say will have their consequences, and lying will destroy your soul.
The Wisdom of Solomon 1:11
Based on these verses, here are the 5 HABITS we need to develop for our growth and mental peace :
1. Stay away from deceitful people
Deceitful people: crooked, frauds, dishonest, misleading, given to cheating.
Stay away from crooks. You ask why?
Be careful of the company you keep. Frauds will change your thinking, &
mess up your values, making you think that its ok to be self-centered, selfish & cruel.
2. Stay away when foolish thoughts are being expressed.
Preserve your brain from idiotic views whether in person or online.
Ever observed that whatever you watch online, you try to emulate it, so a part of it in your life. Watch an exercise video and you’ll feel like working out. Watch a person rant about immigrants and you’ll start hating them. We get influenced by what we repeatedly listen to or watch.
First time one listens to an insane idea, we scorn, but listen repeatedly and you’ll be convinced and act on it and be burned.
3. Don’t complain non-stop
Complaining can become a habit. It can make us ungrateful and not appreciate the blessings we have. It makes us unsatisfied and hurt our spirit.
Complaining takes us into an alternate reality and makes us take decisions which can hurt us in the long run.
Instead step back and imagine your life from the perspective of one who doesn’t have what you have.
4. No bitter talk
Never talk or think bitterly or jealously against another being.
This will damage your soul and snatch away your peace.
A bitter and resentful person is like a contagious infection, spreading his resentment to others.
Bitterness turns away from the real God and pursues gods of lust, money, jealousy, and covetousness.
5. Lying will destroy your soul.
In a world of lies, demoralized values, confusion over virtues and A.I. replacing human thoughts, one forgets that human thinking, words and intentions matter.
Stop lying. Just stop it. It’s a habit that you ought to break.
You will have a clear conscience in your everyday dealings.
Get creative in how not to lie & learn to handle the situation to your advantage. Initially you are clueless as to what to do, but later on you know what to say.
Sometimes it does feel that liars and scoffers are winning in the world, but remember what Jesus said… “what use it is to gain the whole world and lose your souL.”
