But we shouldn’t lose weight in an unhealthy way. Fad diets are challenging to follow and as soon as we are off track, the weight creeps back. Diet pills, injections, and surgeries have serious side effects.

So what should one do?

  1. Stop having added sugar in the form of cakes, candies, granola bars, ice cream, etc. to lose weight.
  2. Stop or lower your salt consumption which will help you lose your water weight. Say no to salty snacks, chips, etc.
  3. Eat your meals on time. Our bodies love to be on routine. When we have a routine, over time, we will stop reaching for food when we are bored, stressed, or out of habit.
  4. Don’t eat high-fat nuts as they are very high in calories and even a small amount hinders weight loss.
  5. Lower your carbohydrate intake to lose weight
  6. Breakfast should only include protein like beans, and protein shakes to keep your carb intake low. Having a high-protein breakfast keeps us full for a long time and stops us from indulging in snacking around mid-morning.
  7. Lunch should be our main meal of the day with carbs, protein, fruit, and vegetables. Eat till you feel full and remember not to reach for sweets!
  8. Have a mid-evening snack of the fruit of your choice. We should never feel deprived if we want to lose weight. When we know that the next meal is just around the corner, our brain stops thinking about food constantly,
  9. Dinner should only be soups with no carbs which means we can’t have bread, crackers, or rice. Having homemade soups with no added fats and carbs will lower our calorie intake leading to weight loss. Have an unlimited amount of soup preferably homemade and vegetarian. The goal is to feel full and not have extra calories. 
  10. Do strength training exercises using dumbbells or weight machines. Muscles consume energy even when we are resting. We will lose weight even when we are sitting! Focus on large leg muscles.

Cutting your carbs will lead to weight loss. Don’t eliminate carbs because, at some point in your life, you will give up and indulge in them. Instead limit your consumption to only one meal…lunch, so that you can burn your carbs during the day, leading to weight loss.
